In recent years there has been a visible upsurge in the number of buildings adorning poppies around remembrance Sunday which is nice to see. The first big one I remember were the ceramic poppies at the Tower of London some years back. My cousin who lives down in the south east and is partial to a day out in London visited and was amazed by them. Very poignant. Since then I've seen several from afar and a few years back saw ones at Balhousie Castle in Perth which is home to the Blackwatch. They were possibly the same ones as were in London. Amazing to see in the flesh.
They do make you stop and think. The ones above are installed on the side of the local church. It seems a growing trend. My overriding memory of this time of year was of shivering old men standing all day on the cold selling individual poppies for no personal gain. In these current times that is not the case. In fact for the first time in a while I didn't even encounter a poppy seller so don't have one. But its not important. Its only important to remember and never forget.
