Today was our 18th anniversary but to be honest it's not something we really celebrate. It's a long time since we exchanged cards. I think this stopped when money was tight and cards seemed an unnecessary expense- which they are in modern times. Presents not given either for the same reason. The money instead usually went to a family take away and did again today. But after agreeing all that my wife still produced a present and I was left with guilt so had to buy something later. Its the second time it's happened. I think to be honest it's just like every other "celebration" for now but less so. Grim yes but I do believe the upside of that is that sometime in the future we will all celebrate properly and properly enjoy it this time with a renewed appreciation not to take these things for granted.
