Today has been dubbed "Happy Monday" here in Scotland owing to the re-opening of the hospitality sector. And in true Scottish style the weather decided to rain on that parade. I'd imagine many eager beavers have filled Facebook with faux smiles in rain soaked wind swept beer gardens. They've been planning it for months and those social media images won't snap themselves.
Maybe not so happy then this Monday for the paying customer but those financial transactions will at least breathe some life into a sector severely hit by the pandemic. Given how hard they have tried from beginning to end to keep their pubs and restaurants afloat I do hope longer term they will be fine. That said a lot of establishments did not open today and never will again. Many workers will never return to those jobs again. It's hit so many so hard.
I'm these times and in the face of the hardships these people have experienced it leaves an even more bitter taste in the mouth learning of the proposed creation of the European Super League. 12 football teams already fat on riches are intent on feeding their faces further with an elite tournament which slaps the face of the supporters who are the foundation of their existence. Thankfully the backlash will batter them down to size again but the very thought is just disgusting but maybe not surprising.
