As bad as the start of 2021 looked from afar I did deep down hope it turn out not to be that bad. Ever the pessimist I try to avoid disappointment. Today has been brutal though. Firstly we had the dreaded total lockdown which was bad enough. Next up is lurgy and not a mild one at that. Finally outdoors has turned dangerous overnight in the shape of an ice rink.
Like the weather my mood has turned overnight and I am not alone. We appear to have avoided Covid so far or at least not shown symptoms but now a lurgy resides to keep us company. Strangely my wife and I have it worst, we have the whole show. It seems to lessen in impact with age- apologies for the terms but my muddled mind is finding it hard to grasp the right words. Anyway we have a bad flu in terms of symptoms but without loss of appetite. Head cold, sore stomach, hot swears, cold sweats, sore limbs, heavy fatigue and more. The oldest girl has these but only very mildly. Her sister feels ill but cannot say specifically why except for fatigue. The boy by all accounts seems untouched.
I had no desire to go out but of course had no choice with the dog. I knew it was cold but was not expecting the ice. Its terrible. My wife injured her back just going out the door and falling down the steps leaving her sore and badly bruised. Nowhere is untouched. Trying to stay upright is bad enough but being pulled by the dog is no fun at all. It's not a soft landing and there are no safe areas. I really have hated it having had 2 bad falls on ice already in recent years. I've read lots of tales today about people hurting themselves with falls and cars having bumps. There has also been a lot of anger too at the lack of gritters and even lack of grit in the empty boxes. Fun times!
