Lens

Finally after nearly a year of saving and never close to the mark I have a lens for my camera. Not the one I wanted but similar- if slightly inferior. The lens is question is a pancake lens and there were two reasons for wanting one. Secondary for me, primary for everyone else, is that as a prime lens it provides sharper images, better depth of field (background blur) and ideal for portrait shots. Secondary for everyone else but still a selling point and primary for me is the fact that it is the smallest lens there is and so my camera is finally portable. My camera is what is known as a CSC. Basically it is better than a compact and bridge camera unless you have over £1000 for the likes of a Leica X1 or slightly less than £1000 for a Fujifilm X100- both fantastic cameras worth the money if you have it and like taking quality photographs on the go. Its not though a DSLR but like a DSLR has interchangable lenses- thankfully. As such its bigger than most compacts and smaller- as well as incredibly lighter- than a DSLR. Perfect for me who likes to take a camera on the go. But the problem was the lens it came with was too big. It made it impossible to carry about without becoming a bulge and so despite getting the camera over 18 months ago I have not taken it out many times- I could count on one hand.

So for at least the last year I have been saving for the only pancake lens I thought I could get for my camera and hoping in vein it would come down in price. It never has because its a lens most people with CSCs think is fantastic and in high demand. In truth I had given up on it because the cheapest I have seem £260 is the cheapest I have seen it and that is not a kick in the arse off what I paid for the camera with funds from my 40th. I was still nowhere near at and begining to regret getting a camera in the first place that I never use. Its ironic. I used my little compact constantly and every time I did I wished I had the fuctionality I now have to do the things I wanted to do and now I don't even use the bloody thing. Last week though quite by chance I stumbled on a forum and learned of another pancake lens which when it came out was actually more expensive than the one I wanted but was now cheaper. Turns out not that much cheaper in most placed but for some reason I still don't know they were £140 on Amazon. It was time to buy. I was short of it but my wife allowed me this one time to make the purchase knowing that I never by myself anything and I might with this purchase finally start using my camera again.

So there it is above. Much better and the photos are much better too. Hopefully this is the kickstart I needed.
